The protest is going to be organized by Amazon’s corporate employees and marks the first time tech workers at the e-commerce giant have planned a mass protest, after the escalation of worker activism at the company.

Many employees have walked out of the company because they were out of work, demanding the company to stop sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace. Now, it seems like its time for the company to face the criticism from its employees, who are asking the company to reduce its carbon footprint and stop supporting politicians who deny the existence of climate change.

“Amazon is one of the world’s most innovative companies,” as said by the group. “We pride ourselves on being a leader. But in the face of the climate crisis, a true leader is one who reaches zero emissions first, not one who slides in at the last possible moment.”

What Does The Company Have To Say About This?

The company responded on the Amazon Employees for Climate Justice, the company told CNN Business in an interview that reducing human-made climate change is an “important commitment.” Amazon said it has sustainability teams working on initiatives to reduce its environmental impact.

The company have also launched the Shipment Zero, this project aims to produce net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 for half of its shipments. It also maintains that e-commerce and cloud computing inherently emit less carbon than personal shopping trips and on-premises data centres.

Is It Necessary?

Doing acts like this is definitely necessary. People need to focus on mother nature and understand it’s in our hands to build our future. The company and the employees are certainly finding ways to save nature. It is an important deal after what happened in Amazon rainforest or after the funeral of the first glacier. These are just a few cases which are visible to people. We are the one hurting nature and it will definitely hurt us back too. So taking steps now is what we need.
