Delhi pollution has been a concerning topic for quite some time now. The air quality in Delhi has reached a severe level and people are choking on bad air. The state also declared a pollution emergency previously due to the rise in pollutants. To discuss the matter, a top panel meeting was scheduled for November 15. What happened at the meeting is quite surprising.
The condition of Delhi is deteriorating day by day and regarding this, an urgent meeting was kept in the state. A total of 29 MPs were invited to attend the meeting. But only 4 turned up!
21 Lok Sabha members and 8 Rajya Sabha members were invited for this meet. The present members include chairman of the standing committee Jagdambika Pal, Hasnain Masoodi, CR Patil and Sanjay Singh. But amidst all the emergency, the majority of MPs decided to skip the meet.
The absent members included Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, Gautam Gambhir, Hema Malini to name a few.
In an interview, the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar said that he was not aware of the meeting. He will look into the matter to find out why the other invited members were not present at the meeting. Prakash Javadekar has already postponed three meetings earlier related to tackling air pollution.
Blame Game Between Gambhir And AAP
Ironically, Gautam Gambhir who is a member of Lok Sabha from Delhi also failed to attend the meeting. He was in Indore, as a commentator for the match between India and Bangladesh.
Targeting Gambhir the Aam Aadmi Party tweeted:
Gautam Gambhir also targeted Arvind Kejriwal and gave a reply for the tweet,
Jagdambika Pal, who is the head of this standing committee was furious and disappointed with this incident. Because of a large number of absentees, the meeting had to be postponed over such a crucial matter. Pal also said that he will be reporting this misconduct by the MPs to the speaker.
Delhi is currently battling Air Pollution, and 25 MPs chose not to prioritize the emergency. The people, especially the children on the streets, are inhaling polluted air which is having harmful effects on their respiratory system.
It is shameful how the parliamentarians neglected such an important meeting and are running away from this alarming issue.
People have shown their concern over Delhi’s pollution. The highly-annoyed public with air pollution backlashed Gautam Gambhir on seeing a post of him enjoying jalebis in Indore and missing out the meeting.
Clearly the public in Delhi is not happy with Gautam Gambhir and the other MPs. The pollution problem is prevailing for quite some time now and it is a matter of concern which can not be neglected at any cost. This matter should be prioritized and actions should be taken to help the public instead of missing meetings on emergency cases enjoying jalebis.
