A clash between the cops and the lawyers broke out at the Karkardooma court in Delhi’s Anand Vihar. According to the reports, a police officer was thrashed badly by the advocates, which seems to be the reason for the chaos. The issue rose to such a level that #LawyersVsDelhiPolice is trending on Twitter.
This chaos started two days after the incident at the Tis Hazari Court complex. At least 20 police personnel and a number of advocates were injured. Many vehicles were also vandalized.
What Actually Happened?
The whole incident started at Tis Hazari Court when the advocates were striking. The protest caused a traffic jam outside the court that promoted the police to call in extra forces.
When the police tried to cool out the situation, some advocates attacked a police officer. This triggered a bigger fight between the police and the advocates and now the police is on a strike against the violence.
Amidst all this chaos, the protestors also misbehaved with a woman journalist who was covering the strike.
Delhi Police has issued an order to its officers asking them to ensure the safety of their fellow officers.
Around six cases were registered on separate complaints at the Tis Hazari Court. Four advocates and a Delhi police constable was injured in the whole incident.
Four cases have been registered against police personnel on the complaints of advocates, including a woman, on the charges of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful confinement, theft and use of criminal force on woman with the intent of outraging her modesty.
Another case was filed against a police constable who was injured in the incident. He was charged with obstructing public servants in discharge of public functions, assault, and attempt to murder, rioting and robbery.
All the cases have been transferred to the special investigation team of the Crime branch.
Lawyers On Street
Lawyers came out on the streets and protested all over the national capital. Lawyers at six districts boycotted work throughout the day. Around 200 lawyers marched from the Saket court to Saket police station. They raised slogans and several others marched from the Tis Hazari court to the residence of the Lt Governor.
